How Projects Work
A typical SIS qualitative engagement starts with screener development and targeted recruitment from our national respondent database. Bilingual moderators (Spanish, Mandarin, German) conduct sessions in-person or via video stream. Analysts code transcripts, triangulate against secondary sources, and deliver findings tied to the client’s decision at hand.
Quantitative work follows a similar logic. We design instruments, field them through CATI, online panels, intercepts, or mobile surveys, and run the statistical analysis in-house. The output is a recommendation, not a dashboard.
Ruth Stanat, who founded the firm in 1984 and still leads it, built this model on a specific premise: research without a clear decision context is wasted budget. Every project scopes backward from the choice the client faces.

The Facility
The SIS focus group facility sits at 11 East 22nd Street in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, between Broadway and Park Avenue. It includes a one-way mirror observation room, HD video and audio recording, live streaming for remote clients, simultaneous translation equipment, and a full test kitchen for food and beverage product evaluations.
The facility hosts consumer focus groups, B2B in-depth interviews, usability tests, product tests, 模擬陪審員調査, and sensory evaluations. Capacity is 10 respondents per session. Recruiting draws from a national database covering consumer and professional audiences, including C-level executives, physicians, and engineers.

Ruth Stanat is the Founder and President of SIS International Research. Since 1984, SIS International has aided organizations with strategic planning, market research reports, market expansion or business development studies and ad hoc research for answers to specific business issues. SIS International Research is also a recognized worldwide leader in providing customized tracking for competitive intelligence.
Ruth is a Charter Member of the Society for Competitive Intelligence Professionals and a recipient of the SCIP Fellows Award. During 1990-1993, she personally traveled and expanded the SIS International organization, which spans over 120 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Fluent in both Spanish and English, he received two degrees in Marketing and International Business from New Paltz in New York.
With over 8 years at SIS International, he has served in both our New York and London offices, managing high-impact projects across EMEA and the U.S, from multi-country focus groups to large-scale car clinics.

Damir Gilyaz
Director of Operations
Damir Gilyaz has over 15 years’ experience in strategy, management and marketing of complex equipment. Damir began his career at a German engineering company identifying potential users of equipment across numerous industries in Eastern Europe, including food processing. His primary responsibilities included conducting primary and secondary research, conducting technical and technological due diligence for clients from Western Europe, including companies, such KHS, world leader in beer packaging technology.
Damir Gilyaz received technological training at numerous world-leading German manufacturers, including Westfalia Separator and EPC Group. After graduating from Hult IBS MBA program, Damir worked with US-based private clients and created market entry strategy, including direct and indirect sales channels
