It is a challenging and time consuming task that requires one to <\/span><span class=\"s2\">identify, contact and attract<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> the right people to take part in a study. Without the cooperation of those who are truly representative of the target market, the results of a research project will have less or no value.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading p1\"><span class=\"s1\">How Do You Conduct Recruiting?<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Not all recruiting is alike. Different approaches must be considered depending on the desired number of recruits, how quickly they need to be found, and the budget size<\/span><span class=\"s1\">. The following are some common ones.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><b>Emails<\/b> can be sent to a purchased list, e.g. subscribers to a publication or <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/zh_hk\/newsletter\/\"   title=\"Subscribe to our Newsletter\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"786\">newsletter<\/a>, attendees of a trade show, or members of a professional organization. Individuals already have certain known and shared interests or profiles in all such cases. <\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">A subset of a large list may be used to conduct a pretest of an online or phone survey, or it may be split up and used for more than a single project without the need to contact any individual more than once.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s2\"><b>Online panels<\/b> \u4e00\u500b<\/span><span class=\"s1\">lready have selected research participants who have agreed to provide information at specified intervals. Many <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/zh_hk\/%e4%b8%80%e4%bd%8d-sis-%e6%8b%9b%e5%8b%9f%e4%ba%ba%e5%93%a1%e7%9a%84%e8%87%aa%e7%99%bd\/\" title=\"\u4e00\u4f4d\u5e02\u5834\u7814\u7a76\u62db\u52df\u4eba\u54e1\u7684\u81ea\u767d\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"3640\">\u5e02\u5834\u7814\u7a76<\/a> firms utilize online panels to save time in recruiting for their clients\u2019 projects since such panels typically have huge numbers of members who have already been screened on basic demographics or psychographics.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Companies that create online panels often act as intermediaries and send out surveys on your behalf, but they do not disclose the email or phone number of the panelist to you. This makes panels less useful for qualitative work. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><b>Social media<\/b><\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">For B2B recruiting purposes, <\/span><span class=\"s3\">\u9818\u82f1<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> has become a handy tool. Potential participants can be contacted after using parametric tools to hone in on members who meet certain screening criteria.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">\u76f8\u4f3c\u5730\uff0c <\/span><span class=\"s3\">FaceBook<\/span><span class=\"s1\"> can be used to find consumers whose profiles match the desired criteria for a study.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><b>\u5ee3\u544a <\/b>in a variety of media from print to online may be effective.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp; <\/span>By placing an ad in a particular newspaper, magazine, or website it is possible to solicit participation in certain types of market research studies, e.g. people with specific occupations, illnesses, or life situations may learn about the need for research subjects this way.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><b>Search engine marketing<\/b> (e.g., Google AdWords) provides a unique way to recruit people based on keywords they search for. For example,<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Individuals who search for dermatologists could be prime candidates for a study of body lotions, creams, medications, cancer detection or similar topics related to skin care or problems.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Likewise, people who enter a stock symbol rather than the name of a stock or company in a search are more likely to be knowledgeable and interested in financial services and investment opportunities. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\"><b>Referrals,<\/b> or Word of Mouth (WOM) may be used to build a pool of participants. Of course,since there is the likelihood that friends, colleagues and family may have much in common, this can be either a positive or a negative depending upon the research objectives. If the goal is to find people with a shared background or set of \u201clikes\u201d, then this can be a good source of participants. If, on the other hand, the research seeks a more diverse population, this might be a less effective approach.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When to Use Each Approach<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"gb-block-image gb-block-image-9df1ec17\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1456\" height=\"816\" class=\"gb-image gb-image-9df1ec17\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39.jpg\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39.jpg 1456w, https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39-1024x574.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39-768x430.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Business-39-18x10.jpg 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1456px) 100vw, 1456px\" alt=\"SIS \u570b\u969b\u5e02\u5834\u7814\u7a76\u8207\u7b56\u7565\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The time and cost will vary in each case.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">\u70ba\u4e86 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/zh_hk\/%e8%a6%86%e8%93%8b%e7%af%84%e5%9c%8d\/%e6%ad%90%e6%b4%b2\/%e8%81%96%e9%a6%ac%e5%88%a9%e8%ab%be%e6%ad%90%e6%b4%b2%e5%b8%82%e5%a0%b4%e7%a0%94%e7%a9%b6\/\" title=\"\u6b50\u6d32\u8056\u99ac\u5229\u8afe\u7684\u5e02\u5834\u7814\u7a76\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"4199\">research that involves the broadest market<\/a> (think of fast food, coffee, cold medicine, phone service), a very large panel is likely to have representative members, so the time and cost of recruiting will be lower.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">However, if a project requires recruitment from a low incidence (rare) population, more effort and cost will be devoted to find enough participants. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading p2\"><span class=\"s1\">\u4e0b\u4e00\u6b65<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Careful <\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\">screening questions<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\">&nbsp;\u548c <strong>quotas<\/strong> can improve the odds that a person who is invited is truly \u201cqualified\u201d and is not a \u201cprofessional\u201d. <\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Adequate <\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\">compensation<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\"><strong>&nbsp;or incentives<\/strong> (e.g., cash, gifts) are strong motivators for ensuring cooperation\u2014whether online, on the phone, or in person\u2014but they add to the project&#8217;s expense.<\/span>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Providing participants with some form of feedback such as a summary report of findings can also be a good incentive.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">\u70ba\u4e86 <\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\">\u5b9a\u6027<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\"><strong>&nbsp;\u7814\u7a76<\/strong> (focus groups, one-on-ones or IDIs) it is important to be very clear in instructing and reminding recruits about the date, time and place that they must be. Even a confirmation letter, email or phone call does not ensure compliance with a person\u2019s assurance that they will participate. If work, family or other social obligations arise, a recruit may not contact the research company or show up at all. For this reason, many research studies will over-recruit, expecting a certain absenteeism rate, much as when airlines overbook their flights.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Recruiting for <\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\">Online Panels<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\"> creates a different set of potential problems. When people are told that they can earn points, gifts, or cash, they might be tempted to join for that reason alone. There may be little to no incentive to be honest, thoughtful, or careful in answering any questions. Ideally, the subject matter or product\/service being studied will be salient and relevant to the participant. Knowing their answers to a set of profile questions can help mitigate this issue.<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span class=\"s1\">In all cases, the best way to recruit is to use a third party.
