Since it applies to products more than to services, the term Product Lifecycle Management (or PLM) is often used as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For some products which are patented, the lifecycle (17 years) can be quite different from others which rely on a \u201csecret formula\u201d or a strong brand name (e.g. Coca Cola and GE are over 100 years old \u2013 and both,incidentally, were founded in 1892!). Certain industries may be more prone to short product lifecycles. For example, automobile models and features change each year. So do computers, smartphones, HDTV\u2019s and many consumer packaged goods. Conversely, producers of pharmaceuticals, aircraft, and basic home\/office supplies tend to deal with longer lifecycles. In reality, however, <strong>every business<\/strong> needs to manage the lifecycle of its products. This includes not only knowing about customers and competitors, but also partners in the supply chain who provide materials and distribution.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Every business ought to have such a process in place in order to answer certain key questions throughout the <\/span><strong><span class=\"s2\">stages<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"s1\"> of a product\u2019s life. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The number of questions that arise is staggering, but various types of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sisinternational.com\/zh_hk\/how-to-conduct-effective-desk-research\/\" title=\"How to Conduct Effective Desk Research\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"11015\">research can be conducted<\/a> at different times to assist in gaining actionable answers.
